Aurelia Talvela

Aurelia is a governance and B Corp specialist who works with mission-driven organizations. Her philosophy to work is drawn from her experience in strategic planning and communication in the nonprofit world.

As a Senior Consultant at Junxion and a long-time leader in the B Corp community, engaging in both cross-provincial and cross-border collaboration, she helps organizations turn their commitments into concrete structures, decisions, and disclosures.

Foundational Moments

Aurelia believes that if an organization wants to call itself purpose‑driven, it needs governance and accountability to match.

She is currently co-leading the B Corp certification of a major Canadian health insurer, in what is set to be the first initial certification for an extra-large certification under the new standards. This includes leading a Double Materiality Assessment (DMA), working directly with internal teams to translate and implement requirements for their context, and embedding governance and reporting structures that will be publicly disclosed. 

Earlier in her career, Aurelia was a founding leader of B Local Québec, volunteered for five years as Board Chair, and now advises the current Board. She worked alongside a diverse network of companies, both across the country and across the border, in navigating the complexities of certification, growth, and impact—demonstrating what it means to be part of a movement wanting to change how business is done.

For Aurelia, frameworks like B Corp, stakeholder governance, and double materiality are opportunities to embed values into how decisions get made, whose interests are considered, and what is shared publicly. 

Using a governance lens, Aurelia is committed to rethinking organizational structure in alignment with the key pillars she learned from her work in the non-profit space that now inform her philosophy.

In one Junxion engagement with a Canadian fundraising agency, Aurelia helped design formal Terms of Reference for the Board of Directors and leadership team, clarifying mandate, roles and conduct, decision‑making authority, relationships with senior leadership, communication pathways, and the principles that guide decisions. By deliberately centering stakeholders in decision-making criteria, she aligns governance practice with the Purpose and Stakeholder Governance dimension in the new B Corp standards, ensuring that organizations operate with a clear, meaningful purpose backed by systems that consider shareholders, but also employees, customers, communities, and the environment.

Unique Positioning

Aurelia’s positioning comes from living in overlapping worlds: the non-profit sector, the B Corp movement, and the governance-focused side of consulting.

Before joining Junxion, she spent nearly five years at a B Corp-certified agency working exclusively with non-profit and mission-driven organizations, leading strategic planning, governance work, stakeholder consultations, and impact initiatives. Starting in communications then transitioning to strategy, this experience anchored her belief in the pillars that are non‑negotiable in any organization that claims to serve a broader purpose.

Originally from Finland and now based in Montréal, Aurelia brings an international perspective shaped by her experience working across Europe and Canada. This is complemented by her educational background in critical race theory and intersectionality in her Master’s Degree studies at Concordia University.

She is trilingual, fluent in English, French, and Finnish. In her off-time, she enjoys time with her husband and two dogs in Montréal while always planning the next trip ahead.
