Project Director

Job Summary

The Project Director (PD) is responsible for leading Junxion’s Project Management office with a view to continuously improving our project management approach, supporting and enhancing project managers’ work across the portfolio of projects, and ensuring the PM ‘container’ for our work delivers consistently excellent client experiences and supports our business objectives.

The PD is a key member of the management team. This will include being hands on with running a project(s) while also having broader management responsibility. Responsibilities will include overseeing the project portfolio and capacity management of the consulting team, troubleshooting PM issues, mentoring Project Managers, assisting with overall business strategy, and adding value during the sales process. You will be a key point of contact for important ongoing client relationships and have input to project pursuit and staffing decisions.

The ideal candidate is an experienced Senior Project Manager who has personally managed projects in the $50,000 – $200,000 range. We are looking for a dynamic, detail oriented individual who enjoys a challenging and fast-paced working environment. Ideally you have experience managing a small team but we will also consider those that have been operating as Senior PM and are keen to step up into a management level role. We need someone that is happy to be rolling up their sleeves and carrying out the details, while contributing to overall strategic decision making of the business.

The job is full-time, 37.5 hours a week and Eastern time zone based. We expect this role to be available across the Canada EST working day with several set meetings to attend. This role needs to support all three of our offices in Vancouver, Toronto and London so some flexibility around time zones is required.

Key Working Relationships

Reporting directly to the CEO and President, the PD works closely with the Operations Director (OD) and is a critical part of the business management team, supporting the achievement of Junxion’s business objectives.

Responsibilities

PMO Management

  • Oversees and manages health of project portfolio.
  • Oversees capacity management and resource planning of consulting team (incl. project prioritization).
  • Works with OD to integrate info/data and lessons learned from across project portfolio to make improvements and help achieve Junxion’s strategic business objectives.
  • Works with OD to monitor compliance with organizational standards and processes.
  • Works with OD to provide/update PM standards, processes, and templates.
  • Develops and/or supports Account Managers (AMs) and Project Managers (PMs) with development of project estimates and proposals.
  • Supports and coaches PMs in their role.
  • Takes on (co)leadership of special projects relevant to the project management function. (For example, working with OD to evaluate (and if proceeding) implement new Project Management software, including new standards and processes.)

Training & Development

  • Trains and guides consulting team in Junxion’s project management systems, processes and best practices; ensures compliance.
  • Trains and guides PM’s in Junxion’s PM role.
  • Develops new standards and processes for internal Junxion project management; ensures compliance.
  • Keeps abreast of best practices, innovations and developments in Project Management.

Project Management

  • Leads Project Management for client engagements in the role of PM (specifically for larger/more complex projects).
  • Leads Project Management for JX internal projects in the role of PM (specifically for larger/more complex projects).
  • Sets up projects for consulting team.

Knowledge, Experience & Skills

Knowledge, Training and Qualifications

  • University degree (Masters preferred) with a focus on business and project management.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation in good standing and/or Project Management Certificate from a reputable institution.
  • PMI training in the three areas of the PMI Talent Triangle (strategic and business management; technical; leadership).
  • Familiarity with and passion for socially responsible business principles and practices, such as social entrepreneurship, corporate social responsibility, and sustainability.
  • Awareness and evidence of engagement on issues of social entrepreneurship, CSR, social justice and/or environmental sustainability.

Experience

  • Minimum eight years working in a multi-project environment in the corporate sector, a consulting firm or creative agency, NGO and / or international agency.
  • Minimum five years in a project management role or managing projects.
  • Experience in a fast-paced, ‘agile’ and / or dynamic work environment.

  • Flexible attitude toward working environment and ability to work as part of an international team.
  • Experience using various PM software and tools; working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Apps suite and Keynote.
  • Strong and professional customer service orientation.
  • Understanding of and commitment to Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI).

Remuneration and Benefits

Hiring range CAD $85k-95k. Significant salary increases possible based on performance. Junxion offers profit-sharing to all employees, three weeks of paid vacation to start, plus a week in December, health & dental benefits, and flexible work schedules/arrangements.
