In the summer of 2008, BC Housing approached Junxion to provide strategy and counsel designed to deepen the corporation’s community investment strategy. With a mission to create the best system of housing and support for vulnerable British Columbians, BC Housing wanted to evolve its traditional fall fundraising campaign. The goal was a more comprehensive and focused program that reflects best practices in corporate community investment.
Throughout the project, Junxion worked with BC Housing senior executives and employee representatives to design a program that reflects the agency’s collective desire to support the needs of BC charitable organizations in a way that complements its core values and business objectives.
The new program, called Community Connections, is designed around three pillars – mental health/addictions, poverty, and early childhood intervention/youth-at-risk – and associated charitable organizations, all of them selected with employee input. Community Connections also introduces new programming elements:
- supporting employees in their community volunteer commitments
- matching their donations to organizations aligned with the corporate strategy
- providing corporate donations to eligible community groups
Once the program was designed, Junxion worked closely with BC Housing on the launch of Community Connections. We designed a program identity, and wrote and designed launch materials such as posters, brochures and an internal website.
The inaugural Community Connections fundraising campaign was held during the first two weeks of December 2008. Employees showed a high degree of interest and enthusiasm for the program, resulting in employee contributions far beyond initial expectations.
“Junxion brought their expertise to what we believed to be a rather unique set of priorities. Our program is employee-driven, which demanded creativity in the way we invited people into the conversation,” said Robin Sauve, Director of Employee Engagement. “This year, our engagement scores were the highest ever, and this program definitely contributed to that result.”
Through Community Connections, BC Housing is continuing to make a positive impact in BC, and deepening BC Housing’s reputation as a progressive and positive member of the community. It’s no wonder that BC Housing is once again one of BC’s Top 50 Employers for 2009.
